Who We Are

IDDMG is a group of seven infectious disease specialists with a combined total of eighty-five years experience in the Bay Area. Our physicians have multiple certifications, including Board Certified Infectious Disease, HIV certification, and infection prevention certification.  Our team prides itself on staying up to date on cutting edge research and the latest advancements in HAI prevention. Our physicians have co-authored eight peer-reviewed scientific journal publications in the last ten years, including a 2008 review of the value of infectious disease physicians (see Appendix A).  Our physicians recently completed a course on ASP that was offered by IDSA/SHEA/CDPH.  We are also intimately involved with all campuses of the John Muir Health System and the larger healthcare community. IDDMG continues to develop and implement new programs for John Muir such as ASP, as well as chairs the Infection Prevention Committee and the Antibiotic Subcommittee of P&T. Greater involvement in the infectious disease community is demonstrated locally by leading the East Bay ID Society over the last 4 years. Nationally, IDDMG physicians have served as members on the Infectious Disease Society Association (IDSA) Clinical Affairs Committee for the past six years and the Infectious Diseases Association of California Board of Directors since 2010.

What is an ID Specialist?

Infectious Disease Specialists are like medical detectives. They examine difficult cases, looking for clues to identify the culprit and solve the problem. Your ID Physician has 9-10 years of specialized education and training: 4 years of medical school, 3 years training as a doctor of internal medicine, and 2-3 years specialized training in Infectious Diseases. Our ID specialists are Board Certified, meaning they have passed a certification examination by the American Board of Internal Medicine –both in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.

Many common infections can be treated by your personal physician. In cases where an infection is difficult to diagnose, or does not respond to treatment, your doctor might refer you to an Infectious Disease specialist.

ID specialists review your medical data, including X-rays and laboratory reports such as: blood work, cultures and pathology data. They also perform a physical exam to help determine the cause of the problem.
